A "Classic"
I actually had some poetry in the works, but this was so funny, I am shelving it for another day, and submitting this for Writer's Island instead.
My husband and I went to the video store last night to grab a movie. My husband is a sweet man, but every now and then his easy disposition is overshadowed by grumpiness. After listening to him grumble a few times, I gave him free reign to choose what he wanted and headed for the book section of the store.
So my husband is browsing through the new releases on his own, cursed by a group of teenaged girls following in his wake. He said he had never heard the word "like" so misused... lol! He said he was trying hard not to listen to them, but you know how a group of teen girls can be! They're pretty impossible not to overhear. After passing through over half the new release section, their conversation took an unexpected turn.
"There's, like, nothing to, like, rent over here."
"What do you, like, want to do?"
"How about we, like, rent a classic?"
My husband's jaw hits the floor. He's pretty impressed - these bubble heads want to see a classic? Then the conversation continues:
"Like what?"
"How 'bout, like **ZOOLANDER?"
My husband almost collapses in laughter. He was quite glad to have the mirthful moment for a reconciliation since he found nothing to rent either!
If you consider Zoolander a classic, I don't mean to offend - it's just my husband was thinking a true classic - you know, Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, etc. Zoolander most certainly didn't come to mind, as it is a Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson movie released in 2001!

Isn't it, like, any teenager, like, who thinks anything before 2000 are claaics, like?
LOL!
witchcraft
But the comment was certainly a classic :-)
I just love listening to teenagers!
Thanks for the chuckle!
glad ya'll had fun with it!
I have a chuckle on me - all last night I kept telling my sweetie that the word "reconciliation" didn't feel right - sure enough, this morning I woke up and figured out what was wrong - the word is CONCILATION - duh! NOW who sounds like a bubble head?? :D
and I'm sleepy - I even mispelled it! Consolation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was like very amusing like! I work with teenagers like and I can't tell you how fed up I get with the word 'like' like! It's clearly a transatlantic blight!!
Look for a 'classic' in sport, and you only have to go back a couple of seasons, or years, but with movies, you have to search the archives. Sports performances are improving all the time - are movies not getting better?
Wow, that makes me feel old!
Oh, man. Is that movie that old already?
I am with you in YOUR definition of classics. Absolutely.
so now "like" is a like a IT word?? :)
I just hope this teenagers are not having a gift of foresight. What would classic movies be years from now if it is so?
But then again who knows.
I wish you well.
